３月の末に高校を卒業し大学に進学する生徒さんたちとお別れの会をしました。すでに彼の地へ出発している人もいて全員ではありませんでしたが、ちびちびの頃から来ている生徒さんたち、本当に毎年この季節は嬉し悲しです。

We had a small gathering with some students who graduated high school last month. Some could not join as they had already left Nagasaki. Most of them have been coming to Estaminet English School since they were little. I feel happy for their graduation, but at the same time I feel sad to see them go.

共通するのはみんなのキラキラした目。あの過酷な高校３年生を終えた開放感。人生の次の段階へ行くって本当にわくわくすること。私も十分おすそ分けしてもらいました。大阪に行く人とは向こうで再開することを約束。英語の次のステップへ招待したいと思っています。

One thing I always witness in those students is their shining eyes with lots of happiness, hope and expectations. After going through a hard year of studying, they must feel so free. It’s always exciting to go to the next chapter of your life. Thank you very much for sharing that with me. I am inviting some of those going to Osaka to join me studying the next level of English there.

みんな存分にこれからの人生を楽しんでね〜。そして英語は絶対にあなたたちの人生の味方になりますから、これからも勉強続けて世界に飛び出してね〜。

最近ますます高校生のTOEIC受験生が増えています。

More and more high school students are taking the TOEIC test.

大学進学でも大変有利で、このTOEIC の点数で指定校推薦ももらえたりします。また、大学進学後にクラス分けなどにも使われるテストでますます注目度があがっています。

If you have a good score of the test, it is quite advantageous to get into certain universities. Some universities use this test as the placement test for the English class.

エスタミネーでは、高校生で英検２級を取った子たちはその後TOEICを受験するパターンが増えてきました。

At Estaminet English School more and more high school students are taking the TOEIC test after they pass the Eiken level 2 test.

さて１月受験で７００点をマークしたMちゃん。素晴らしいですね〜！まだ高校２年生です。今回が２回目の受験で、前回も５９５点と高校生としては堂々の点数でしたが、２ヶ月で１００点アップ！さらにレッスン回数を増やし４月、５月と受験予定でレベルが高く特別な推薦枠がもらえる東京の難関私立大学を目指しています。

This girl marked 700 points in the January test. How fantastic! She’s only in the second year of high school. This was the second time for her to take the TOEIC test and she did so well! Her score was 100 points better than the last one which she took at the end of last year. She’s planning on taking the test again in April and May for even higher scores so that she has a better chance to get a school recommendation for a prestigious university in Tokyo.

彼女のレッスンに対する姿勢や集中力を考えると８００点もいけそうです❤️

I have a feeling she can probably get 800 in her next test!

弱冠小学４年生のAikaちゃんが、英検２級合格の報告に来てくれました！それも初めての受験で。

Aika came to let us know that she passed the Eiken Level 2 exam! Wow! We knew she would pass, but the fact that she is only 9 and that she did pass still amazes us a lot as the level is equal to that of the high school completion.

いや〜、本当にすごいです！英検２級というと高校卒業レベルです。

Here is what I interviewed her: 以下彼女にインタビューしてみました。

What did you do to pass the test? テストに合格するために何をしたの？

“I tried to memorise 25 words per day, but sometimes I forced myself to memorise 50~60 words per day when I forgot to do something. “

一日に単語を２５覚えることにしていたけれども、忘れ物をしたりした日は自分に負荷をかけて５０〜６０語覚えた。

“When I was in the car going here and there, I listened to the editorial section of the New York Times. So I know a lot about President Trump and Ivanka.”

車で移動中はなるべくニューヨークタイムスの社説を聴くようにしていて、トランプ大統領やイバンカさんのことはよく知っている。

エスタミネーではいろんなトピックをスラスラ言えるよう何度も練習し、Aikaちゃんは答えをほぼ暗記していたそうです！

そして最後に言い切りました。

“My hobby is studying English. I love English, so it is never a pain to study it.”

小４にしてやっていることが半端ないですね。「好きこそものの上手なれ」とはよく言ったものです。好きなことは本当にとことんがんばれますね〜。でも彼女の努力には本当に脱帽です。Aikaちゃん、本当に快挙です。これからは何を目標にするのかな〜？お母さん曰く、次の夏休みにボランティア関係の活動を海外でしたいそうです。それもすごいね！しっかり応援させていただきます。
