It was the last day for Yulia to work with us at Estaminet English School yesterday. She was a small but mighty woman who is very knowledgeable about many things and a great artist. She showed her dedication and commitment from the first day until the last. She will be missed greatly!

きのうはYuliaのエスタミネー英語教室最後の日でした。 年齢は若いけれどとても物知りで頭脳明晰。さらに非凡なアーティストで、才能あふれる女性です。仕事の初日から最後の日まで本当にエスタミネーの生徒さんのためにしっかりと働いてくれました。小さな生徒さんから大人まで、今週はみんな彼女との別れがつらくて涙の日々でした。彼女はどこで働こうとも必ず期待以上の仕事をすることでしょう。これからの人生に幸あれ！

Our last lesson was “What is engineering?” The material was carefully chosen by me for the filed he is going to study at Kyushu University.

The word “engineering” comes from the Latin ‘ingenium’, meaning ‘cleverness’, and ‘ingeniare’, meaning ‘to design or devise. According to the video we saw, the professor (not teaching at Kyushu Uni.) says, “we’ll be teaching you some math, but also the concepts that those equations explain in their own way. We’ll survey what we’ve already achieved, explore what we’re still discovering, and dream about what we hope to make possible and we’ll show you the ideas you can use to engineer great things.”

Ko well demonstrated his will from the beginning and he honed his skill and made it. Congratulations!! Enjoy the big world of engineering.

最後のレッスンは 「工学とは？」というテーマ。九州大学で機械工学を専攻するということで特別ネタを用意しました。

エンジニアリング（工学）という言葉はラテン語の’ingenium’ からで「賢さ、器用さ」という意味で、’ingeniare’ とは「デザインしたり工夫・考案する」という意味。レッスンで採用したビデオの教授（九大の先生ではないが）によると、「数学もさることながら、その等式の示す概念も教えます。これまでに人類が成してきたことを調査し、未だ発見し続けていることを探索し、さらに可能にしたいと思うことを夢に描きます。素晴らしいものを発明するためにみなさんが使うことができるアイディアを示します。」

Koはレッスンに来た最初の日から英語力を増強したいという強い意志を示し、謙虚にしかし果敢に英語学習に取り組みました。学校の行事などで欠席しなければならない時は必ずメイクアップのレッスンを自分から進んで予約していました。自己管理力が高く宿題をきちんとこなし、わからないときは恥ずかしそうな笑顔ではっきりと「わかりません」と伝えました。

彼に大学受験の勝因は？と聞いたところ「全てが得意科目だった！」受験する大学と学部が決まったら早いうちから受験科目全てを得意科目にしておくってのが手のようです：）
