デイビッド・アトウッド David Atwood
私はデイビッド・アトウッドといいます。カナダのモントリオール出身の３５歳です。日本では長崎と福岡で４年英語を教えています。私はフランス語が話される町でフランス語の中で育ちました。フランス語は私の母語ではありませんでしたから、日々の生活を送る上で素早く学ばなければなりませんでした。ですから、私には自分がよく知らない言葉を習ったりそれを使ったりすることがどんなものかはよくわかります。日本に来て現在日本語を勉強していますが、また同じ経験をしています。この経験が英語を学ぶ生徒さんたちが直面しているものがどういうものであるかを敏感に感じ取る教師というものに役立っていると思います。
大学では芸術を専攻し、現在も絵を描いています。わたしの人生のパッションはまさにこのアートです。エスタミネーでもアートを教えています。アートをやることはとてもよい自己表現の場であり、また英語を特別な形で学ぶ方法でもあります。音楽も大好きで、ギターも弾きますし、たくさんの音楽のコレクションがあります。ボクシングも好きです。最近はやっていませんが、好きなボクサーを見るのは楽しみです。

My name is David Atwood and I’m a 35 year old Canadian from Montreal. I've been teaching English in Japan for four years, both in Nagasaki and Fukuoka. I grew up in a French speaking town surrounded by French. Because French is not my first language I had to quickly learn how to speak to function in daily life. Therefore, I know what it’s like to learn and use a language you are not fully comfortable with. I am once again experiencing this living in Japan and trying to learn Japanese. I feel this has made me a teacher who is more sensitive to and aware of the challenges that my students face as English learners.
I studied art in university and continue to paint and draw to this day. It is truly one of my great passions in life. I also teach art here at Estaminet. It’s a great way to express yourself and practice English in a unique and concrete way. My other interests are music, I play the guitar and have a large music collection, and boxing. I don’t currently box myself but I love to watch and follow my favorite boxers.
