シャノン・ヘルゲソン Shannon Helgeson
こんにちは、アメリカのモンタナ州から来たシャノンです！高校を卒業して熊本、青森、福岡そして韓国に住んでいました。英語を教え始めてからもう6年で、この仕事はだ～～い好きです！日本は私の第2の祖国です。居心地がよく、どこに行っても人は親切で豊かな文化と歴史があります。
私は何にでも興味があります。小学校のときからヴァイオリンとヴィオラを弾き、福岡に住んでいるときに琴を習い始めました。カラオケも大好きでセリーヌ・ディオンや宇多田ヒカルが好きだってことも堂々と言っちゃいます。音楽は私の人生そのもの。それから、柔道も2年間学びました。時間があるときにまた始めたいと思っています。空手や茶道、太鼓もやりましたよ。常に新しい趣味やアドベンチャーを探しています。次は三味線とピアノ、お習字やお花なんかをやりたいと思っています。
日本に住み、日々母語でない言葉を使って生活している私には、言葉を習得しようとするみなさんの苦労がよくわかります。一番大切なことはとにかくギブアップしないでやり続けることです。チャンスがあれば身の回りにあるもの、テレビ、本やインターネットなどで練習してみてください。恥ずかしがらないでわからないことがあったら聞いてみましょう。ベストを尽くし楽しんで英語を学んでくださいね！Greetings! My name is Shannon Helgeson, and I come from Montana State in the USA. I have lived in Kumamoto, Aomori, Fukuoka, and Korea since graduating from high school! I have been teaching English as a second language for 6 years now, and love every minute of it! Japan is my second home! I feel very comfortable here, everywhere you go people are friendly, and the culture and history are so rich.
I’m interested in almost everything! I’ve been playing the violin and viola since I was an elementary school student, and I took up the koto (Japanese harp) while living in Fukuoka. I love karaoke, and I never hesitate to belt out the likes of Celine Dion or Utada Hikaru! Music is my life! In addition, I studied Judo for two years and would like to continue practicing it in my free time. I’ve also tried my hand at karate, tea ceremony, and taiko. I’m always looking for new hobbies and adventures! Next up I’d like to learn to play the shamisen and piano, and perhaps study Japanese calligraphy and flower arrangement!
Living in Japan and having to function every day using another language makes it easy to understand the obstacles language learners must overcome. The most important thing is to continue trying and not give up! Practice as much as possible, using what’s around you: music, TV, books, and the Internet. Don’t be shy and never hesitate to ask questions. Just give it your best and have fun!
