For my Obon vacation, I jumped over to Jeju Island in Korea,
which is only a 45 min flight from Fukuoka.
I have two friends there that bought a house last year
next to arguably the nicest beach on the island.
They have been trying to persuade me to come over for some time now
so I finally decided to pack my snorkel and make the trip.
Jeju is a really beautiful island with sparkling white sand beaches and emerald blue water
that equal anything that I have seen in Southeast Asia and Japan.
My friends didn’t have air conditioning in their house
so when their fans needed a break
we went out to eat divine local BBQ black hair pig,
snorkelled in aquarium like water, rode scooters along elegant coastlines,
rode ferries to exotic islands, met lovely dynamic locals,
explored the chilly UNESCO lava tubes “Manjanggul”
and climbed the breathtaking UNESCO volcano “Seongsanilchulbong.”
It was a great trip although I am happy to be back in charming Nagasaki.
