日本語の「司会」というのも英語に訳する時に間違いやすい言葉のひとつ。

Master of Ceremony: よく聞くのが、Master of Ceremony (the emcee)。これは基本結婚式やイベント、宴会などの進行役。

Host というのは、’a person who receives or entertains other people as guests’ つまり、お客様を接待する人。’The host of a radio or television show is the person who introduces it and talks to the people who appear in it’ というのもある。ラジオやテレビ番組の司会をやる人。

Moderator: 最近アメリカの大統領選でよく聞いた　moderator。これは討論やtown hall meeting (対話集会）の中立的な立場の進行役のこと。

Facilitator: これも最近よく耳にする言葉です。英語の定義は ‘a person or thing that makes an action or process easy or easier’ これはファシリテーションという言葉から来ていて、wikiの定義では、「ファシリテーション（英: Facilitation）は、会議、ミーティング等の場で、発言や参加を促したり、話の流れを整理したり、参加者の認識の一致を確認したりする行為で介入し、合意形成や相互理解をサポートすることにより、組織や参加者の活性化、協働を促進させるリーダーの持つ能力の１つ。ラテン語の’facil’は「容易・簡単」という意味ですもんね。

Toastmaster: ‘At a special ceremony or formal dinner, the toastmaster is a person who proposes the toasts and introduces the speakers.’ 「セレモニーや宴会で乾杯の音頭を取り、スピーカーを紹介する人」という定義

日本語では「司会・進行役」でも英語で言うときには気をつけよう。
