Well, I’ve had many medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, and pharmacists. I ‘ve taught English conversation, intensive listening, or reading.

Since I worked at a company selling medical instruments and I had to deal with lots of hospitals(mainly OR, surgery and the purchasing department) and doctors with private practices in Los Angeles, I was sort of familiar with some aspects of the medical terminology.

However, here is a new challenge- terminology associated with medical technologists which deals with lots of chemical and medical examination/testing terminology. I even don’t know a lot of those procedures in Japanese. Nonetheless I am totally enjoying my new learning. Although some of the words are totally new to me, the basic English structures are rather simple. Since students in this field are quite enthusiastic in learning, it is a joy to teach them.

今までにいろんな医療プロフェッショナルの方々をレッスンをしてきましたー医師、看護師、理学療法士、臨床心理士、薬剤師などなど。内容は会話、リスニング、リーディングなどが主でした。

ロスアンジェルスでは医療機器の会社に勤めており、UCLAメディカルセンター、シーダーサイナイ病院など大小の病院、個人クリニックなどが顧客でしたので、病院のORや外科、購買部とは毎日膨大なコミュニケーションをしていました。そのため少しは医療用語にもなじみがありました。

しかし今回は臨床検査系の読解を教えています。英語自体は非常に簡単な構文なんですが、何しろ超化学系でいろんな検査法などの言葉が次から次で日本語でもなじみがないものがたくさん。準備は大変ですが、新しい学びは楽しい！この分野の方はみなさん毎回真剣に取り組まれているのでレッスンはとってもスムーズで、みなさんの「わかった！」の瞬間の笑顔がたまらなく嬉しいです♬
