Around the end of September, I found a tiny article on CNN.

The tiny mountain village of Corippo, arranged higgledy-piggledy on the green slopes of southern Switzerland’s Verzasca valley, looks like something out of a fairytale.

But here, in what is Switzerland’s smallest municipality, the citizens are facing a harsh reality.

南スイスのベルザスカ渓谷にごちゃごちゃと家が立ち並ぶ小さな山村は童話に出てくるようなところだ。

What was once a thriving farming community of around 300 people has dwindled to just 12 residents, 11 of whom are over 65.

スイスで最も小さな自治体であるここは厳しい現実に直面している。

かつては３００人ほどの豊かな農村であったが、現在ではたったの１２人に減少し、そのうちの１１人は６５歳以上である。

Today, the only economic activity in the town is the local osteria, a rustic restaurant.

 現在この町の唯一の経済的活動はオステリア、素朴なレストランだけである。

Here, in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, not far from Lacarno, Corippo’s slate-roofed buildings, built from local Ticino granite, have remained largely untouched for centuries — but it’s now on the verge of becoming a ghost town.

このラカルノからそう遠くないスイスでもイタリア語を話す地域の、コリッポのスレート葺きの建物はこの地域でとれるTicino 花崗岩でできており、何世紀も手付かずのままであるが、今やゴーストタウンになる一歩手前である。

However, all’s not lost. A local foundation, Fondazione Corippo 1975, has come up with a novel way to save the village: Corippo is set to become the country’s first “albergo diffuso,” or scattered hotel.

しかし全てが失われたわけではない。地元の団体Fondazione Corippo 1975 が村を救う新しい方法を思いついた。コリッポがスイス初の「albergo diffuso アルベルゴ・ディフーゾ」散らばったホテル、である。

The Albergo Diffuso, an innovative concept of hospitality, was launched in Italy in the early 1980s as a means of reviving small, historic Italian villages and town centres off the usual tourist track.

アルベルゴ・ディフーゾはホスピタリティーの革新的な概念で、通常の観光ルートから外れた小さい歴史的なイタリアの村や町の中心部を再活性させる手段として1980年代初頭にイタリアで始まった。

It has to conform to the following conditions:

• Run directly by an individual owner and providing normal hotel services

• Rooms distributed in existing converted buildings in historic centres

• Central reception area with food available

• Part of a genuine community so that guests can be part of local life

・それぞれの家の持ち主が経営し、通常のホテルのサービスを提供する

・歴史的な町の中心部にある改装された既存の建物の中に部屋が点在

・中心のレセプションエリアで食事ができる

・客が地域の生活の一部になれるよう実際に存在しているコミュニティーであること

過疎になった町が、家に手を入れて人が来るようになったら素晴らしい！ただ、日本では家がスイスのように石造りではないので、傷みが激しいと修復にコストがかかりすぎ難しいかなぁ。
