There are so many students I am proud of here at Estaminet. Kiyoko was a student 10 years ago studying academic papers of psychology with me. Her profession was to help domestic violence victims at the time. She has continued working on the field and decided to apply for the program offered by JWLI-II – Japanese Women’s Leadership Initiative.
The website says, “JWLI-II offers an executive leadership development program that transforms Japanese women to be action-oriented leaders with confidence to lead, skills and knowledge to manage, and a plan to make social change in Japan.
１０年前に私のもとに心理学の文献の読解講座でやってきたKiyokoちゃん。当時からDV(ドメスティックバイオレンス）を専門にしていました。その後さらなる学位を取り、その分野で活躍していることは耳にしていましたが、次のステーッジに行くために英語の面接やディスカッションの力が必要と再度エスタミネー英語教室の門を叩きました。
彼女が応募したJWLIプログラム(Japanese Women’s Leadership Initiative)は、「日本各地より選ばれた、活躍が期待される女性リーダーたちを、さらに行動力のあるリーダーへ育成します。ボストンで行われる4週間のプログラムを中心とした2年間にわたる研修を通して、応募者の中から選ばれた「フェロー」たちは、リーダーとなる自信とマネージメントのスキルや知識を身につけ、社会変革をもたらす具体的なプランを構築し実現に向け推進します。東京での事前研修後、ボストンでは非営利団体（NPO）、社会起業家やインキュベーターなど数団体を視察訪問し、組織運営のノウハウやファンドレイジングの手法、リーダーシップなどを学びます。また、アントレプレナーシップの分野で全米1位を誇るバブソン大学にて、1週間にわたる女性社会人向けのリーダーシップ研修にも参加します。さらに、同大学教授による指導のもと、自身が実現したいと考える社会変革に対するアクションプランを立案し発表します。帰国後はメンターの伴走のもと、その実行に向けて推進していただきます。」
対象は非営利団体のスタッフ、社会起業家、企業のCSR担当、行政の社会貢献担当などの女性。

- 日本社会に変革をもたらす自分の夢 (ビジョン) をアクションプランとして立案する
- 帰国後、２年間のメンターシップの支援 の元にアクションプランを実行し、社会変革を実現させる
Kiyoko had to write a 600 word English essay that she is going to be involved. After passing through that screening, she had to go through a 40-minute interview in English. She came to Estaminet for the interview practice.
フェローの採用試験は、まず書類選考で履歴書、600字のエッセイ「自分が関わろうとする社会問題に、どう取り組むのか」といったことをすべて英語で提出。書類審査で通ったら、英語の面接が４０分。この面接準備のためにエスタミネーのレッスンを受けました。
At the actual interview, there were four interviewers and she had to explain about the current situation in Japan, her issue, domestic violence, the need to establish the system to rehabilitate the victims, and so on. It was quite tough and it lasted for 50 minutes! She practiced many probable questions she might have to answer in the lessons. Among many candidates from across Japan to the program, only two were accepted. Well done Kiyoko!
実際の試験では、4人の面接官に対して、自身が取り組んでいる社会問題Domestic Violenceの日本の現状や、法律の仕組み、加害者更生システムの必要性など、英語で正確に伝えることはが求められ苦労したそうです。それに４０分と言われていたのに５０分もあったそうです。しかし、レッスンで講師と何度もさまざまな面接のシチュエーションを練習したかいがあって、全国から来た受験生の中でたった二人という合格枠に無事に合格することができました。本当に素晴らしい快挙です！
She is scheduled to go to Boston in six months and is trying to improve her English skills. I am truly excited about her future. After returning to Japan and completing two years of training with her mentor, she will be transformed to be fully qualified to be an action-oriented leader.
彼女は半年後にボストンに行くことが決まりさらなる英語学習をめざしています。これからの彼女の道程を思うと本当にワクワクします。ボストンでは今までと全く違った環境での学びが待っています。さらに帰国後２年のメンター制度を終えた後、素晴らしい女性リーダーとなっていることでしょう。自分の「思い」がどんどん自分を上のステージへと連れて行きます。
